Advent Conspiracy

Advent is upon us. We’ve got some ideas of how we’re going to celebrate with the kids. I thought this video would be a good kick-off for us adults.

Cheers to Amanda for initially pointing this out.

CommunityOne Update

Things are going well with CommunityOne. Just wanted to give you a quick update on the things we’ve been involved in:

After a crazy time dealing with a hosting company I’ve finally been able to get the website up and running (again) for St. Patricks Karate Club (www.stpatskarateclub.com). My friends are doing a fabulous job with the karate club.

Another friend runs the Fitzalan Youth Centre. We’ve worked together to get a website up so that he can promote the youth centre. Content is slowly coming along, but we really like the site.

He also asked me to help out with a website for the BRG Action Group. BRG is made up of youth from the Butetown, Riverside, and Grangetown areas in Cardiff. They put on a conference last year for businesses as a way to promote themselves as valid and available members of the local workforce. The conference went so well last year (news coverage and awards) they decided to put it on again this year. My friend thought it would be a good idea for BRG to have a web presence. So, we put together a site that was launched at the conference this year.

The beauty in all these projects is that they were set up on WordPress and Joomla. This means that after my friends receive a little training they can update and maintain their sites themselves and not have to pay tons of money out of an already tight budget.

I’m thrilled that CommunityOne has been able to help them out. It doesn’t hurt that all of them are super people and are doing great things in the community.

Cheers.

I Got Soul

The Killers are quickly becoming one of my favorite bands. Their new album Day and Age is coming out in a couple of days.

On their first album, Hot Fuss, they have a song called All These Things That I Have Done. I can’t get the tune out of my head. I know it’s old, but I love the song.

RaM – Adventure #2

Rat and Mouse recently tagged along on a trip to Bath, England while Ryan and Jennifer were visiting from the States.

We had a great time, but Rat and Mouse were really confused by the accents.

Rat and Mouse love looking at giants from far away lands. Man these people are tall.

6 Continents in 1 Week

The kids were both on school holiday a couple of weeks ago so I had a little idea to study the world. My kids love talking about the world and animals. In fact, much down time is spent by my kids talking, pretending, bickering, and wondering about the habits of animals in our world. I just endure and attempt to act interested in discussing when and why a mammoth is classified as a woolly mammoth or just a plain mammoth. I’m just thankful so far that they haven’t gotten too interested in the mating habits other than which animals lay eggs.

So we embarked on our adventure. We blew up our inflatable globe, put together our world puzzle, pulled out the kid atlas and travelled the world. We did origami, made rainforest rainsticks, drew animals, made masks, did aboriginal dot painting, sewed stuffed animals, and visited an aquarium several hours away. And each day we tried some new foods, my favourite part. What a holiday!
